Trichloroethylene is a common solvent in industry. It is colorless, toxic, transparent, easy to flow, not burning, volatile, aromatic liquid, has anesthetic effect on nerves. Pure trichloroethylene decomposes slowly. When the mixture of trichloroethylene and oxygen is irradiated by ultraviolet, the decomposition of trichloroethylene is accelerated. Trichloroethylene is mainly used for metal degreasing and dry cleaning of wool and fabrics. Solvent for resin, asphalt, coal tar, cellulose acetate, nitrocellulose, rubber and coatings. It is used as anaesthetic in medicine and raw material for synthesis of monochloroacetic acid in pesticide.
