Phosphorus Pentoxide
Alias: phosphoric anhydride
Molecular formula: P2O5
Molecular weight: 141.94
·Classification and number of hazard Code:
GB8. Class 1 81063. Original iron specification: Grade I inorganic acid corrosive articles, 91034, UN No.: 1807. IMDG Code 8198, class 8.
·Purpose:
Raw materials of phosphorus oxychloride and metaphosphoric acid, refining of acrylate, surfactant, dehydrating agent, desiccant, antistatic agent, medicine and sugar, and analytical reagent.
·Physicochemical properties:
Usually white crystalline powder that deliquesces easily. The density is 0.9g/cm3 and sublimated at 300 ℃. Melting point 580-585 ℃. Vapor pressure 133.3pa (384 ℃). When heated to a higher temperature under pressure, the crystal changes into amorphous glass, which is easy to absorb moisture in the air. Dissolve in water to give off heat and white smoke.
·Hazard characteristics:
Nonflammable. However, in case of water and organic matter such as wood, cotton or grass, it will react violently and release heat, which can cause combustion. A large amount of smoke and heat can occur in case of water. It is slightly corrosive to most metals in case of moisture. Local irritation is very strong. Steam and dust can seriously stimulate eyes, mucous membranes, skin and respiratory system. And corrode the skin and mucous membrane. Even dust with a concentration of 1mg / m3 is unbearable.
·Emergency measures and fire fighting methods:
Firefighters must wear full body protective clothing, put out fire with dry sand and dry powder, and do not use water for rescue. First aid: patients who inhale steam should leave the contaminated area and be placed to rest and keep warm. If the eyes are irritated, rinse them with water for more than 15 minutes, and then seek medical treatment. In case of skin contact, rinse with water first, and then apply magnesium oxide glycerin ointment. Seek medical attention in case of burns. Gargle, drink water and magnesium milk immediately and send them to hospital for treatment.
·Storage and transportation conditions:
Corrosives. Packing method: (II) class. Store in a cool, dry and ventilated warehouse. Store and transport in isolation from inflammables and alkalis. Handle with care to prevent damage to the container. The container must be sealed to avoid rain and moisture. Leakage treatment: wear gas masks and gloves, mix with baking soda or the same amount of low alkali and hydrated lime to make slurry, gradually pour into a large amount of water, and put the neutralized and diluted sewage into the wastewater system.
·Shelf life: it can be stored for 30 days from May to September; It can be stored for 60 days from October to April; It can be stored in a closed barrel for 6 months.

Phosphorus pentoxide is a kind of phosphorus oxide formed by white phosphorus, yellow phosphorus or red phosphorus burning in dry air. It is white soft powder or colorless monoclinic crystal at room temperature, and is easy to deliquescence. Phosphorus pentoxide is a common raw material and reagent in the chemical industry. It is widely used in medicine, coating additives, printing and dyeing additives, antistatic agents, chemical industry and other industries. It is mainly used in the manufacture of high-purity phosphoric acid, gas and liquid desiccants, organic synthetic dehydrating agents, and the preparation of organic phosphoric acid.
