Cefalexin is the first generation cephalosporin, also known as "Xianfeng No. 4", belonging to the β- Lactams. It is effective for a variety of gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (such as Staphylococcus, pasteurella and Escherichia coli). Pseudomonas and Proteus are usually resistant.
