Potassium Hydroxide
Chemical formula: KOH
Relative molecular weight: 56.105
CAS NO: 1310-58-3
Properties: white flaky solid, similar to sodium hydroxide in chemical properties, extremely alkaline and corrosive, easily soluble in water and giving off a lot of heat, and deliquescence, easily absorbing moisture in the air and deliquescence, absorbing carbon dioxide to form potassium carbonate. When dissolved in water, alcohol or treated with acid, a lot of heat is generated.
Applications: Potassium hydroxide is mainly used in leather, paper making, printing and dyeing, sewage treatment and other fields. Sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide are raw materials for making hand soaps, both of which are strong alkalis. However, after the completion of hand soaps, their alkalinity becomes soap due to saponification with oil, and the alkalinity will continue to decline. After 1-2 months, their alkalinity will drop to below 9, and they will not cause significant harm to the skin.
