Medical sorbitol
Chemical formula:C6H14O6
Molecular weight: 182.17
CAS No.: 50-70-4
Properties: colorless and tasteless crystal, easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in methanol and ethanol, with great moisture absorption.
Application:
1. It can be used as raw material for the production of vitamin C. sorbitol can be prepared by fermentation and chemical synthesis. It is used as raw material of industrial surfactants to produce span and Tween surfactants. Sorbitol has moisturizing properties and can replace glycerol in the production of toothpaste, cigarettes and cosmetics. The rigid polyurethane foam with certain flame retardancy can be produced from sorbitol and propylene oxide. In the food industry, it can be used as sweetener, moisturizer, chelator and tissue modifier. In the pharmaceutical industry, the dehydrated sorbitol ester produced by nitration of sorbitol is a drug for the treatment of coronary heart disease. Food additives, cosmetic raw materials, organic synthetic raw materials, moisturizers, solvents, etc.
2. Nutritional sweeteners, wetting agents, chelating agents and stabilizers. It is not converted into glucose in human body, and is not controlled by insulin. It is suitable for diabetics. It can be used as defoamer, sugar making process, brewing process and bean product process. It can also be used for moisturizing raisins, thickening and aroma preservation of wines and cool drinks, as well as candy and chewing gum.
3. Synthetic resin and plastics, separation and analysis of low boiling point oxygenated compounds, etc. It is also used as gas chromatography stationary liquid, thickener, hardener, insecticide, etc.
Sorbitol is a sugar alcohol found in fruits and plants with diuretic, laxative and cathartic property. Unabsorbed sorbitol retains water in the large intestine through osmotic pressure thereby stimulating peristalsis of the intestine and exerting its diuretic, laxative and cathartic effect. In addition, sorbitol has one-third fewer calories and 60 % the sweetening activity of sucrose and is used as a sugar replacement in diabetes.Sorbitol is an odorless colorless solid. Sinks and mixes with water.D-glucitol is the D-enantiomer of glucitol (also known as D-sorbitol). It has a role as a sweetening agent, a laxative, a metabolite, a cathartic, a human metabolite, a food humectant, a Saccharomyces cerevisiae metabolite, an Escherichia coli metabolite and a mouse metabolite. It is an enantiomer of a L-glucitol.
