Synopsis:Silver sulfadiazinis a sulfonamide / silver salt anti-bacterial agent used as a topical ointment for the treatment of burns. Found that Ag sulfadiazine may increase the duration of treatment - wounds may take longer to heal if treated with this agent, and therefore is not recommended by the authors of the Cochrane systematic review. Silver sulfadiazine is usually made as a 1% medicated cream or aqueous suspension. Brands are silvadene (generic trademark), silverex, silverol, silvazine, flamazine, thermazene, burnheal, and SSD. This compound is listed on the WHO Model List of essential medicines, which contains the most important medicines needed for a primary health system.
