Captopril is an inhibitor of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE), with IC50 value of 6nM[1] .Captopril is an ancient antihypertensive drug, which is often used to control blood pressure. Captopril was found to be an ACE inhibitor in all studied species. Captopril could inhibit the pressor response of normal subjects and conscious normotensive rabbits to intravenous injection of angiotensin I, but had no inhibitory effect on the pressor response induced by angiotensin II. Captopril has been proved to be an effective alternative to combined antihypertensive therapy in patients with intractable hypertension [2]. Captopril was also found to have anticancer activity. In thymus free mice carrying lnm35 human lung cell xenografts, it can significantly reduce tumor growth without toxicity. Captopril affects cell growth by inducing apoptosis [3].
