Description of Boron Carbide（CAS NO 12069-32-8）

Boron Carbide (B4C) is one of the hardest man-made materials. Its hardness with Mohs hardness 9.36 and microscopic hardness 5400 to 6300kg/mm²is only exceeded by cubic boron nitrides and diamond. Its density is 2.52g/cm³ and melting point is 2450°C. ZHENGXING® boron carbide powders are characterized by excellent properties, such as high boron content, high alkali and acid resistance, outstanding heat resistance, high grinding efficiency, and no magnetism. It is the ideal substitute for diamond. 

Applications of Boron Carbide（CAS NO 12069-32-8）

1. Boron Carbide with its high hardness is widely used in polishing, lapping and drilling of hard metals, corundum, sapphire, glass and ceramics, as well as a loose abrasive in cutting applications such as water jet cutting. It can also be used for dressing diamond tools. 

2. Wear parts such as blasting nozzles, wire-drawing dies, powdered metal and ceramic forming dies. 

3. Nuclear applications such as reactor control rods and neutron-absorbing shielding. 

4. Since its high hardness, high elastic modulus, and low density give the material an exceptionally high specific stopping power to defeat high-velocity projectiles, Boron Carbide, in conjunction with other materials can be used as ballistic armor (including body or personal and vehicles).

5. Metal Borides, produced by using Boron Carbide powder and metals, can be used surface coating to increase wear resistance of mechanical parts significantly.

6. WIth its high thermal capacity, Boron Carbide powder can be used as solid fuel of rackets.

7. Boron Carbide is also used as raw material for other boride materials, such as Boron Halide, Boron Nitride, metal halides etc.

8. Boron Carbide can be used as anti-oxidant in carbon-bonded refractory mixes.
