Properties: colorless liquid.poisonous!Density 3.75g/cm3.Melting point 9.6 ℃.Boiling point 98 ℃.Smoke in the air.Can attack glass when heated.Corrosive to skin.In contact with water, a violent hydrolysis reaction occurs, producing hydrogen fluoride, oxygen and free iodine.It also decomposes in case of acid and alkali.Reacts with sulfur, phosphorus, silicon, bismuth, tungsten, arsenic, etc. to generate corresponding fluorides.Carbonized in contact with organic compounds while burning rapidly.It is prepared by dissolving about 1% (mass) iodine in iodine pentafluoride, adding the solution to the reactor continuously and reacting with fluorine gas.It can also be prepared by suspending solid iodine in iodine pentafluoride, reacting with fluorine gas at 20-30°C.Or use iodine at 113～150 ℃, about 300kPa and react with fluorine gas continuously.It is used as a fluorinating agent in organic synthesis reactions, and is used as a final chain agent when it reacts with tetrafluoroethylene to generate perfluoroethyl iodide.Can be used as fluorinating agent and ignition agent.
