Para-aminobenzoic acid is one of the components of folic acid, which is necessary for the growth and division of body cells. It is highly contained in yeast, liver, bran, and malt. It is synthesized by chorismate via the shikimate pathway.
Used in dye intermediates. It is used to produce reactive red M-80, M-10B, reactive red violet X-2R and other dyes, and to produce cyanobenzoic acid to produce drug p-carboxybenzylamine. Para-aminobenzoic acid can be used as a sunscreen, and its derivative, octyl p-dimethylcarbamate, is an excellent sunscreen.
Preparation or source
1. Obtained by reduction of p-nitrobenzoic acid.
2. It is made from p-nitrotoluene as raw material by oxidation and reduction.
3. Using p-methylaniline as raw material, it is prepared by acetylation, oxidation and reduction.
