O-Chlorobenzaldehyde/OCBD is a raw material for the synthesis of acaricides such as tebufenpyrad and fluacrypyrim, as well as an intermediate for the production of plant growth regulator, indoxacarb. OCBD is also used to produce the pesticide, MiteClean, which can control mites on drought crops and fruit trees.
O-Chlorobenzaldehyde can be used to treat some diseases such as headaches, colds, and allergies. The oximation of O-Chlorobenzaldehyde yields O-Chlorobenzaldoxime, which can be further chlorinated to yield O-Chlorobenzaldichloride, both of which are pharmaceutical intermediates. In medicine, it is mainly used for the synthesis of ampicillin (Cloxacillin).
