Mannitol
Characteristics: Mannitol, also known as D-Mannitol, is a white crystalline powder, odorless and sweet, with density of 1.489, melting point of 166-170 ℃, boiling point of 290-295 ℃ (at 0.4-0.467kpa), optical rotation of + 23 ~ + 24, soluble in water, slightly soluble in methanol and ethanol, insoluble in ether.
Use: Mannitol can be used as dehydrating agent and osmotic diuretic, and can also be made into injection to reduce intracranial pressure, intraocular pressure, diuresis and prevent early acute renal insufficiency. In recent years, the dosage of compound infusion made of it and amino acids has increased. Mannitol can also be used as an excipient for tablets, such as anticancer drugs, antibiotics, antihistamines, vitamins, sobering drugs, oral coolants and so on. Mannitol can not only be directly used as medicine, but also be used as raw materials to synthesize many chemical drugs, including mannitol nitrogen mustard, mannitol dimethylphosphate, di mannitol, nicotinic acid mannitol, hexanitrate mannitol, L-carnitine, mannitol propylene oxide ether and hard glyceride. In the food industry, mannitol can be used as a sweetener for low calorific value foods and low sugar foods. Because it has the smallest water absorption in sugar alcohols and has a refreshing sweet taste, mannitol can be used as an anti sticking agent for chewing gum, cakes and other foods. In fine chemical industry, mannitol can be used to produce high temperature foam plastics for thermal insulation and fire protection. In addition, mannitol is also used in electrolytic capacitors, primary explosives (nitrated mannitol), etc. As corrosion inhibitor and emulsifier, mannitol is widely used in agriculture, textile and other fields. Mannitol is a good medium for some microorganisms.
