White solid with phenol odor. Soluble in ethanol, ether, chloroform, benzene and carbon tetrachloride. Slightly soluble in water.

Use

2, 4-Dichlorophenol is mainly used as pesticide and pharmaceutical intermediate. In pesticide, it can be used in the synthesis of organophosphorus insecticide prothiofos, herbicide butyl 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetate, diclofop, bifenox, oxadiargyl and the new fungicide fenoxanil, etc. In pharmaceutical area, it can be used as an important raw material of the drug bithionol.
