Silvery white glossy soft metal (orthorhombic and cubic), with ductility. It dissolves slowly in dilute and concentrated nitric acid and caustic hydrochloric acid solution, and dissolves slowly in dilute and concentrated nitric acid and caustic hydrochloric acid solution. It is stable in air, but tin powder is easier to oxidize, especially in humid air.
