Product performance:
Colorless, transparent, slightly sticky, flammable liquid with strong special smell. Soluble in water, miscible in ethanol and ether.
Product use:
Isobutyl ether can be used as cetane number promoter of diesel oil; Studies have disclosed examples of diesel preparations containing isobutyl ether. The preparation of isobutyl ether from butanol is known, which is generally carried out by dehydration of n-butanol with sulfuric acid, or catalytic dehydration on ferric chloride, copper sulfate, silicon dioxide or silicon aluminum at high temperature. Efforts to improve air quality and increase energy production from renewable resources have led to a renewed interest in alternative fuels (such as ethanol and butanol) that can replace gasoline and diesel fuels. Efforts are being made to improve the efficiency of preparing 1-butanol by fermenting microorganisms that use renewable raw materials such as corn waste and bagasse as a carbon source. It is hoped that such isobutanol streams can be used to prepare fuel additives, such as isobutyl ether.
