Sodium benzoic(E211) is a white particle or crystalline powder that has no odor or slightly benzoin odor and is slightly sweet with an astringent taste. Also known as sodium benzoate(E211), with a relative molecular weight of 144.12. Sodium benzoic(E211) is stable in air and soluble in water. Its aqueous solution has a PH of 8 and is soluble in ethanol.

1. Food and Beverage Preservative(with an E number of E211)

2. Mold Inhibitor
In the tobacco industry, sodium benzoate is used to prevent mold growth on chewing and smoking tobacco.
3. Corrosion Inhibitor
As a corrosion inhibitor, sodium benzoate is used to prevent rust and corrosion on engine parts, bearings, radiator systems and in emulsion paints, cutting oils, and impregnated wrap papers. It is also used in automotive engine coolants.
4. Excipient
Sodium benzoate is well-known and widely used excipient for pharmaceutical preparations, toiletries and cosmetics such as toothpaste, powders, shampoos, syrups and glue.
5. Nucleating Agent
Sodium benzoate is used as a nucleating agent to formulate plastics, such as polypropylene, to improve strength and clarity.
