Sodium thiocyanate is a white orthorhombic crystal or powder. The relative density is 1.735g/cm3.Melting point 287 ℃.It is easy to deliquescence in the air and produces toxic gas in case of acid.Soluble in water, ethanol, acetone and other solvents. The aqueous solution is neutral, and it forms blood-colored ferric thiocyanate with ferric salts. It does not react with ferrous salts. It forms yellow sodium bisulfate with concentrated sulfuric acid. It reacts with cobalt salts to form dark blue cobalt thiocyanate. The action of copper salts produces white silver thiocyanate precipitates or black copper thiocyanate precipitates. This product is classified as a high environmental risk product.
