Methyl formate is a widely used low boiling solvent, which can be directly used as insecticide, bactericide and fumigant for treating grains, fruits, dried fruits and tobacco. It is often used as an intermediate in medicine, pesticide and organic synthesis, and as a solvent for cellulose acetate.
