Compared with mercaptoethanol, DTT has similar effects, but the pungent odor of DTT is much smaller and the toxicity is much lower than that of mercaptoethanol. And when the concentration of DTT is 7 times lower than that of mercaptoethanol, the effects of the two are similar.
Used as protein sulfhydryl protective agent. Used for protein disulfide bond cleavage and sequence analysis. Sublimation at 37°C and 0.67Pa. Slight moisture absorption. Easily soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform and ether. Slowly oxidize in the air.
