Physicochemical properties: brown powder, very soluble in cold water and hot water (blue solution), soluble in ethanol, green and blue. In case of concentrated sulfuric acid, it is reddish brown and blue purple after dilution.
Usage: mainly used for making pure blue and blue black ink. It can also make lakes and printing ink. It is also used as a colorant for silk, cotton and leather, and as an indicator.
Preparation method: basic fuchsin is condensed with aniline, sulfonated with fuming sulfuric acid, neutralized with sodium carbonate, acidified with sulfuric acid, filtered, concentrated and dried.
