Properties
Summary
4-Aminosalicylic acid (also known as p-aminosalicylic acid, aminosalicylic acid or PAS) is an antibacterial drug used to treat tuberculosis. It is also used to treat inflammatory bowel disease. It works by inhibiting NF-κB and scavenging free radicals. Mesalazine (5-aminosalicylic acid) is very similar to 4-aminosalicylic acid and also has medicinal uses. After heating, 4-aminosalicylic acid will undergo decarboxylation reaction and decompose into 3-aminophenol and carbon dioxide.
