Methyl methacrylate

Methyl methacrylate is an unsaturated ester, the English abbreviation for Methyl methacrylate is MMA, it is a colorless transparent liquid at room temperature , volatile, explosive, easy to burn, and the volatile gas has an irritating odor. Soluble in alcohols, ethers, ketones and chlorinated hydrocarbons, slightly soluble in aliphatic ethers, alcohols, slightly soluble in water, and with water and methanol can form an azeotrope.

Application range

Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) is mainly used in the polymerization and copolymerization fields. For each application, a special polymerization process is required. The initiators are free-form (organic peroxides, azocompounds) or ionic ones.

Plexiglass can be made by bulk polymerization for artificial decorative materials and construction industry parts, optical information materials and electrical components packaging and so on.

Can obtain coatings, paints, adhesives, waterproofing agent, lubricants viscosity adjusting additives and so on through emulsion polymerization .

It can replace styrene as crosslinking agent, dilute unsaturated polyester resin and make natural and synthetic rubber modifier.

Methyl methacrylate is mostly used in the plexiglass industry, but it is also used in many other fields. Currently in the medical functional polymer (polymer materials and polymer drugs), textiles (acrylic second monomer) as a functional monomer, and also have a wide range of applications in coatings, paints, PVC processing aids and adhesives and other fields
