2-pyridine, like pyridine, can form salts with inorganic or organic acids, and add compounds with inorganic salts, halogenated alkanes, etc. During hydrogenation, α - methylpiperidine or pyridine can be obtained under different conditions. The 2-methyl group in 2-methylpyridine is highly reactive, and upon oxidation, it forms pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (Picolinac acid, C5H4NCO2H). In the presence of a dehydrating agent, it condenses with benzaldehyde to form benzyl derivatives. Reacts with polyformaldehyde at 200 ℃ to generate 2- (β - hydroxyethyl) pyridine.
