Overview: boric acid is also called "normal boric acid". It is obtained by the action of natural borax (sodium borate) and acid. Chemical formula H3BO3. Molecular weight 61.83. White triaxial scales with shiny crystals. The relative density is 1.43514 and the refractive index is 1.337, 1.461 and 1.462. Soluble in water, ethanol and glycerol. The aqueous solution is acidic and monobasic weak acid (KA = 6) × 10-10)。 The solubility in water increases with the increase of temperature. Heat to 169 ℃ (± 1 ℃), dehydrate to form metaboric acid, and form boric anhydride at 300 ℃. Neutralize with strong alkali to obtain metaborate. Tetraborate was obtained under weak alkaline conditions.

Preparation method: it can be prepared by adding hydrochloric acid or sulfuric acid to borax solution or decomposing cristobalite by hydrochloric acid.

Uses: widely used in making borate, water glass, borate ester, optical glass, enamel, paint, pigment, cosmetics, food preservative, leather finishing, printing and dyeing auxiliaries and medicine. It can also be used as anti-corrosion disinfectant and astringent.
