Preparation method:
It is obtained from the whole flowering plant (aboveground green part) of the Labiatae herb Mentha asiatica by steam distillation.
It condenses into a solid when it is slightly cold. Freezing point 5 ~ 28 ℃, acid value less than 2, soluble in nonvolatile oil, mineral oil and malonic acid, insoluble in glycerol.
Quality standard:
Appearance: colorless or light yellow clear liquid. Strong mint aroma and cool moderate bitterness. Unstable to strong acids and bases. Soluble in ethanol, most non-volatile oils, mineral oils and propylene glycol, insoluble in glycerol.
Relative density: 0.888 ~ 0.908
Refractive index: 1.4 56 ~ 1.466
Optical rotation: - 24 ° ~ - 15 °
Ester content (calculated by menthol acetate): 5.6% ~ 18.4%
Solubility: completely soluble in 2.5 ~ 3.5 parts of 70% ethanol.
Total alcohol content (calculated by menthol): more than 28-40%
