Properties

Adefovir dipivoxil is an oral broad-spectrum antiviral drug, which was first synthesized by Gilead company of the United States. It was approved by FDA to be listed in the United States in September 2002. It is also another oral anti HBV drug after lamivudine. Adefovir dipivoxil is recommended as the first-line choice for newly diagnosed patients by the American Association for the study of liver diseases, the Asia Pacific Society for the study of liver and the Chinese guideline for the prevention and treatment of chronic hepatitis B. Adefovir dipivoxil can inhibit the activity of HBVDNA polymerase, and can penetrate into the DNA of hepatitis B virus, inhibit the replication of the virus, and have a strong inhibitory effect on lamivudine and pancyclovir resistant HBV virus, which is clinically used for the treatment of hepatitis.
