Properties

Sodium bisulfate (chemical formula: NaHSO4), also known as acid sodium sulfate, niter cake. Its anhydrous matter is hygroscopic. Sodium bisulfate decomposes into sodium pyrosulfate before reaching its melting point, so its melting point is difficult to determine. The aqueous solution of sodium bisulfate is acidic, and the pH of 1mol / L solution is about 1.4. In some cases, sodium bisulfate solution can be used instead of 39.0-42.0% sulfuric acid solution. For example, acetic acid can be obtained by distilling the mixed solution of sodium bisulfate and sodium acetate, and the sodium bisulfate solution can also react with most carbonates to produce carbon dioxide. To some extent, sodium bisulfate shows the properties of sulfuric acid and sodium sulfate mixture. This can be reflected when sodium bisulfate is dissolved in ethanol (it will decompose into sulfuric acid soluble in ethanol and sodium sulfate insoluble in ethanol). 2NaHSO4 → Na2SO4 + H2SO4
