Calcium citrate is the calcium salt of citric acid. It is a common food additive (e333), which is commonly used as preservative, but sometimes as a spice. It is similar to sodium citrate in this regard. Because citrate ions can chelate with harmful metal ions, calcium citrate is also used as soft water agent. Calcium citrate is also commonly used as dietary calcium supplement. Calcium accounts for 21% of the mass of calcium citrate.
