Zonisamide is a benzoisozole derivative, which can inhibit the focus of epilepsy and block the diffusion rate of epileptic discharge. It is used to treat epilepsy that is ineffective to other drugs, especially partial seizures. It is effective for primary generalized seizures, mixed epilepsy, myoclonic seizures and epilepsy syndromes such as Lun Jia syndrome and West syndrome. However, it is usually used as adjuvant treatment of other first-line drugs.
