This product is the calcium salt of L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate. It belongs to folic acid family vitamins (vitamin B9, folic acid). It is a coenzyme form of folic acid. Levomefolate calcium is a naturally produced salt forming methyl derivative of folic acid. It is the most bioactive and functional form of folic acid and is easier to absorb than ordinary folic acid. Folic acid supplementation may be a more favorable method to increase folic acid, reduce homocysteine levels, and support normal cell proliferation, vascular endothelial function, cardiovascular disease, nervous system function. Levomefolate calcium supplementation during pregnancy has been shown to reduce the risk of neural tube defects and recurrence.
