D - (+) - methyl lactate is soluble in water, ethanol and organic solvent. It is irritant and can cause combustion and explosion in case of open fire and high heat. D - (+) - methyl lactate can be used as high boiling point solvent, detergent and synthetic raw material. It is used as solvent for nitrocellulose, cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate, cellulose acetate propionate and cellulose ether. When used as solvent for nitrocellulose paints and coatings, the whiteness resistance and ductility of the coatings can be improved. Used as a solvent for cellulose, paint and dye.
