Polyphosphoric acid is simply a polymer of phosphoric acid. More than 100% phosphoric acid is generally called polyphosphoric acid. It is a transparent viscous liquid. With the increase of the content, the viscosity is higher, and 115% polyphosphoric acid is a glass-like viscous substance. The viscosity of polyphosphoric acid will decrease when heated. Therefore, in some industrial applications, it is necessary to heat polyphosphoric acid before using it to make it flow before normal production.
Polyphosphoric acid is less acidic than nitric acid and sulfuric acid, and has no oxidation capacity. It is hygroscopic and deliquescent. It will cause combustion when encountering H foaming agent.
