Microcrystalline Wax

Microcrystalline wax is obtained from petroleum distillation residual heavy fractions by solvent separation, refining and hydrogenation. It is a combination of branched and straight chain saturated hydrocarbons with carbon numbers greater than 35. Unlike paraffin waxes, microcrystalline waxes have very minute crystals and are elastic, adhesive, with a greater affinity for oil. Microcrystalline wax is widely used in chewing gum, candy and other foods and pharmaceutical.
