Magnesium nitrate
Molecular formula: Mg (NO3) 2 · 6H2O
Molecular weight: 256.4
CAS Number: 13446-18-9
Physical and chemical properties: Magnesium nitrate hexahydrate is a colorless crystal belonging to the monoclinic crystal system, easily deliquescent, and the most stable magnesium nitrate hydrate at room temperature. It has a relative density of 1.6363 and a melting point of 89 ℃. When heated above 90 ℃, it transforms into a basic salt, and when heated above 400 ℃, it completely transforms into MgO. Easy to dissolve in water, soluble in methanol and ethanol. It is oxidizing and can cause combustion or explosion when in contact, friction, or impact with organic matter.
Usage: Used as a dehydrating agent for concentrated nitric acid; Manufacturing explosives, catalysts, and other magnesium salts, as well as used as wheat ashing agents and water-soluble fertilizers with moderate amounts of elements.
