Function:

Sodium hydride is mostly used in deprotonation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds,maleates and similar compounds.The corresponding sodium-containing compounds can be alkylated to afford various organic compounds,and related reactions include the Dieckmann condensation,the Stobbe condensation,the Darzens condensation and the Claisen condensation reactions.Besides,it is used to synthesize sulfur ylide so as to achieve the transformation of ketones to epoxides.

Properties

Sodium hydride belongs to ionic crystal and salt like compound, in which hydrogen is a negative monovalent ion, which is unstable when heated and decomposes without melting. Sodium hydride hydrolyzes with water to produce sodium hydroxide and release hydrogen. Sodium hydride can be used in condensation and alkylation reactions, and can be used as polymerization catalyst to manufacture pharmaceutical synthesis and perfume industry, to manufacture borohydride, metal surface rust remover, reducing agent, condensation agent, desiccant and clarson's reaction reagent.
