Properties

Succinic anhydride crystallizes in white orthogonal cone and double cone at room temperature. It is slightly pungent, insoluble in water and ether, but soluble in chloroform. This product is the raw material of coating, medicine, synthetic resin and dye. It is used for organic synthesis. It is the raw material of alkyd resin, adhesive resin and anthraquinone dye for coating. The coating made of it has flexibility and water resistance. It can be used in medicine to produce vitamin A and sulfonamides. It can be used in agriculture to produce fungicides, insecticides and plant growth regulators. Succinic anhydride and its derivatives can be used as olefin polymerization catalyst, cross-linking agent of ester polymer condensate, light stabilizer of polymer, ultraviolet absorber, etc., and also as oilfield auxiliary.
