Maleic anhydride (MA), abbreviated as maleic anhydride, or maleic anhydride, is an anhydride of maleic acid. It is a colorless or white solid with a sour taste at room temperature. Its molecular formula is C4H2O3. Maleic anhydride was previously prepared by the catalytic oxidation of benzene, but due to the price, it is now mostly prepared by the n-butane oxidation method.It can be used to determine the reagents of organic compounds with conjugated double bonds. It is also used in synthetic resins, coatings, pesticides, medicine, food, and lubricant additives.
