Physicochemical properties: benzoyl chloride, also known as benzoyl chloride and benzoyl chloride, belongs to a kind of acyl chloride. Pure product is colorless, transparent and flammable liquid, which will smoke when exposed to air. Industrial products are slightly light yellow and have a strong pungent odor. Steam has a strong irritant effect on ocular mucosa, skin and respiratory tract. It can induce tears by stimulating ocular mucosa. The melting point of benzoyl chloride: - 1.0 ℃, boiling point 197.2 ℃, relative density 1.212 (20 ℃), flash point 72 ℃, refractive index (N20) 1.554. Soluble in ether, chloroform, benzene and carbon disulfide. It decomposes gradually with water, ammonia or ethanol to form benzoic acid, benzamide or ethyl benzoate and hydrogen chloride.
