Anisole, also called anisole, is a kind of aromatic ether, and its molecular formula is C6H5OCH3. Colorless liquid with fragrance. It is soluble in ethanol and ether, but insoluble in water. Anisole is prone to electrophilic substitution reaction on the aromatic ring. The reaction with phosphorus pentachloride mainly produces p-chloroanisole and a small amount of o-chloro products; the reaction with sulfuryl chloride produces 2,4,6-trichloroanisole.
