Brief Introduction
Trimethylamine (TMA), with molecular formula n (CH3) 3, is an organic compound and the simplest tertiary amine compound. Trimethylamine is a colorless gas, heavier than air, hygroscopic, toxic and flammable. Trimethylamine gas with low concentration has strong fishy smell, and it has a smell similar to ammonia at high concentration. Trimethylamine is usually compressed in steel cylinders or sold as a 40% aqueous solution. Under natural conditions, the decomposition of plants and animals will produce trimethylamine gas. Trimethylamine usually causes the fishy smell of rotten fish, the stench of infected wounds and halitosis. Most trimethylamine comes from choline and carnitine. Trimethylamine is a nitrogen-containing base, which is easy to obtain protons to form trimethylamine positive ions. Trimethylamine hydrochloride is a hygroscopic white solid obtained by the reaction of hydrochloric acid and trimethylamine.
