Xylene is a colorless, transparent and aromatic liquid. It is the product of two hydrogen substituted by methyl on the benzene ring. The boiling point is 137 ~ 140 ℃. Xylene is moderately toxic and carcinogenic. Xylene pollution mainly comes from synthetic fiber, plastic, fuel, rubber, additives of various coatings, adhesives and waterproof materials, as well as combustion gas of fuel and tobacco leaves.
