Ondansetron HCl; 1,2,3,9-Tetrahydro-9-Methyl-3-[(2-Methyl-1H-Imidazol-1-yl)Methyl]-4H-Carbazol-4-one Hydrochloride; 9-Methyl-3-((2-Methyl-1H-Imidazol-1-yl)Methyl)-4H-Carbazol-4-one Monohydrochloride; Zofran; Ondemet; Emeset; Zophren; Emetron
Brief Introduction
Ondansetron hydrochloride is a potent and highly selective 5-HT3 receptor antagonist with strong antiemetic effect. Chemotherapeutic drugs and radiotherapy can cause the small intestine to release 5-HT, activate the afferent branch of vagus nerve through 5-HT3 receptor, and trigger vomiting reflex. Ondansetron can block the trigger of this reflex. Ondansetron can treat nausea and vomiting caused by chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and nausea and vomiting after operation. Ondansetron can also inhibit opioid induced nausea.
