Sodium bisulfate (chemical formula: NaHSO4), also known as acid sodium sulfate, niter cake. Its anhydrous matter is hygroscopic. To some extent, sodium bisulfate shows the properties of sulfuric acid and sodium sulfate mixture. This can be reflected when sodium bisulfate is dissolved in ethanol (it will decompose into sulfuric acid soluble in ethanol and sodium sulfate insoluble in ethanol). 2NaHSO4 → Na2SO4 + H2SO4

It can be used as lubricant, emulsifier and thickener. It can play a thickening role in cosmetics and reduce the amount of surfactant needed to form a stable system.
