Methyl ionone is a very precious perfume. There are six isomers. There are CIS and trans isomers and optical isomers. Present in a synthetic product as a mixture. Light yellow to yellow liquid. It has soft violet aroma. The physical constants of the six isomers are shown in the table below. It is used to make many kinds of essence, especially violet and lilies. It is prepared by condensation and cyclization of citral and methyl ethyl ketone.
