Famciclovir

Famciclovir is an anti herpesvirus drug. Famciclovir is actually a "prodrug", which means that it does not directly fight the virus. In contrast, famciclovir is converted to penciclovir in vivo, and penciclovir is active against the virus. Famciclovir is active against the same virus as acyclovir, but famciclovir has a longer duration of action. This means that it is not necessary to give acyclovir multiple times a day.
