Acetylacetone is a colorless to light yellow transparent liquid, which is usually a mixture of enol and keto tautomers. The two tautomers are in dynamic equilibrium, with keto form accounting for about 18% and enol form accounting for 82%. Acetylacetone is soluble in water, ethanol, benzene, chloroform, ether, acetone, ethyl acetate and glacial acetic acid. Acetylacetone is an important intermediate in organic synthesis, which is widely used in pharmaceutical, perfume, pesticide and other industries. Acetylacetone is an important raw material in pharmaceutical industry, such as the synthesis of 4,6-dimethylpyrimidine derivatives. Acetylacetone is also used as a solvent for cellulose acetate, a desiccant for paints and varnishes, an additive for fuel oil and lubricating oil, a catalyst, a resin crosslinker, a resin curing accelerator, and an important organic solvent and analytical reagent. Acetylacetone can chelate with cobalt (Ⅱ), cobalt (Ⅲ), beryllium, aluminum, chromium, iron (Ⅱ), copper and other metal ions due to the presence of enol. Acetylacetone can be used as a metal cleaning agent in micropores by its chelation with metal.
