Character: colorless or slightly yellow transparent liquid or crystal with slight ammonia smell; be miscible with water, alcohol, ether, chloroform, benzene, ethyl acetate, carbon disulfide and most organic solvents in any ratio; and be insoluble in petroleum ether.
Application:
α-pyrrolidone is an important chemical raw material and high-polarity organic solvent. It is widely used in the pharmaceutical, textile, cosmetic, solvent, electronic cleaning and other industries.
1. As an organic synthetic raw material and intermediate, it is mainly used polyvinylpyrrolidone, piracetam, γ-aminobutyric acid, nylon -4, polyamide fibers etc.
2. As a solvent, it is mainly used in synthetic resins, pesticides, plasticizers, coloring agent, floor polishes, polyhydric alcohols, printing inks, coatings, iodine, electronics cleaning etc.

Pyrrolidin-2-one is the simplest member of the class of pyrrolidin-2-ones, consisting of pyrrolidine in which the hydrogens at position 2 are replaced by an oxo group. The lactam arising by the formal intramolecular condensation of the amino and carboxy groups of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA). It has a role as a polar solvent and a metabolite.This product is mainly used as solvent and organic synthesis intermediate. It can be used to manufacture nylon-4 and vinyl pyrrolidone.
