Methanol
The methanolic system has the simplest structure of a saturated monohydric alcohol with the chemical formula CH3OH. Is a colorless volatile liquid with an alcoholic odor. Toxic, misdrinking 5-10 ml can be binocularly blind, and heavy drinking can lead to death. Used in the manufacture of formaldehyde and pesticides, etc., and used as extractants for organics and denaturants for alcohol, etc. Usually produced from the reaction of carbon monoxide with hydrogen.
【 Alias 】 xylitol, hematoxylin.
【 Appearance and traits 】 colorless clear liquid with pungent odor. Slightly ethanol like odor, volatile, mobile, smoke-free when burned has a blue flame, can mutually dissolve with water, alcohol, ether and other organic solvents, can form a azeotropic mixture with many compounds, can form solvent miscible with many compounds, better dissolving properties than ethanol, can dissolve many inorganic salts such as sodium iodide, calcium chloride, ammonium nitrate, copper sulfate, silver nitrate Ammonium chloride and sodium chloride, among others. Flammable, the vapor can form an explosion limit of 6.0% - 36.5% (by volume) with air. Toxic, the general misconsumption of 15ml can cause eye blindness.
【 MP (° C)】 - 97.8
【EINECS No.】 200-659-6
【CAS No.】 67-56-1
【 Relative density (water = 1) 】 0.79
【 B.P. (° C)】 64.8
【 Relative vapor density (air = 1)】 1.11
【 Saturated vapor pressure (kPa)】 13.33 (21.2 ℃)
【 Solubility 】 dissolves in water and is miscible in many organic solvents such as alcohols and ethers.
