Physicochemical properties: nonylphenol is a colorless or light yellow viscous liquid. Slight smell of phenol. It becomes transparent glass at low temperature, but does not precipitate crystals.
Solubility: insoluble in hot water or cold water, and insoluble in cold lye. Soluble in common organic solvents, but slightly soluble in alkanes with low boiling point except aromatic ones.
Corrosivity: it does not corrode steel, copper, zinc, tin, aluminum and other metals.
Main uses: nonylphenol is an important raw material for further processing and manufacturing surfactants. The derivatives that can be produced by various reactions have important industrial media. The product with the largest production is nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether. It is a typical non-ionic surfactant. It has good acid and alkali resistance, oxidation resistance, wetting, emulsification and cleaning properties, and has a wide range of applications.
