Methyl chloride iodide is a mixed liquid halogenated methane, which is easily soluble in acetone, toluene, ether and alcohols. Its refractive index is 1.5812 - 1.5832. Methyl chloride iodide is commonly used in cyclopropanation ("Simon Smith reaction"), Mannich reaction, amine methylation, epoxidation, ring opening and addition of terminal olefins. It is often used to replace Diiodomethane reagent because of its higher yield and selectivity.
